I'm in the latter camp. I think with good control, artificial intelligence (AI) will be the biggest enabler of our times rather than the end of days. Sure, there are risks - if we give systems too much power via automation, for example, or if AI doesn't have fail-safes.
AI is already yielding huge cost and resourcing improvements by eliminating spare capacity in warehouses and data centres. What's key is ensuring humans are assisted by machine learning and AI rather than threatened by them.
Step changes in the way we work and live usually happen because of tools humanity creates. The AI evolution is no different.
But it's also understandable to fear change - especially when it's hard to fully understand and might be smarter than us.
