This is quite a worrying trend. From the statistics presented it seems that the purpose of these attacks is to gather information on the mobile user or drive them towards advertisements.
I don't believe it will be long before we see compromised mobile phones being used within botnets to to deliver Denial of Service attacks against organisations. They're the perfect device. Always on, always connected and with 7.2 billion of them in the world they will be very hard to take down.
